Half a century after Leica introduced M3 to the market, Leica has made another historical introduction, the first digital M series, the Leica M8.

This new rangefinder digital camera has the classic design, build and function of the M series but utilizes a completely digital imaging system. The M8 has a specially designed ten megapixel CCD sensor which being slightly smaller than a film negative introduces a 1.33x field of view crop. This ratio conveniently converts several standard M lenses to sort-of equivalent steps (so 21 mm to approx. 28 mm, 28 mm to approx. 35 mm).

The M8 is not an adapted M7, it is a totally new camera with a new body (albeit one that bears all the usual M trademarks), a new viewfinder and a new sensor. Nor is it necessarily the end of the line for M film cameras; Leica is leaving that door open, for the moment at least.

This could probably be the street camera many street photographer’s have been waiting for.

This Lighting for Product Photography course, a specialized commercial photography for small products that will easily fit on a table in a photography studio, discusses in detail photographing and illuminating packaged products for catalog, brochure, poster, publicity kit, manual, print, outdoor, and online ads.

Better product photography in print and web advertisements will translate to higher sales. As a result, commercial advertising photography and catalog product photography are always in demand. As a first step for aspiring product photographers, this course consists of lecture, critiquing and extensive studio sessions.

Emphasis will be given to the following workshop topics:

  • Basic equipment for a tabletop studio
  • Camera settings
  • Controlling light for product photography
  • Different lighting techniques
  • Using appropriate light based on kind and material of the product

Columbia Digital (Nikon Philippines) Development in Service Offering

Mr. Anderson Tan of Columbia Digital, the official Philippine distributor of Nikon, has just sent word about their new service policy.

As of 9/14/06:

SERVICE SERVICE:

1. We now have loaner units for Nikon pro users who will have their DSLR’s repaired for a period of time. Pro users, meaning those who use their DSLR to make a living (i.e. wedding photographers, studio photographers, news journalists, etc.). Just present a valid ID, calling card and sign a memorandum of agreement.

2. We will still be servicing grey market Nikon DSLR, lenses and Coolpix units due to popular demand but with a surcharge of 30% from the bill. We really have to discourage grey market and thus have to charge a LOT higher.

3. We will be servicing Nikon DSLR, lenses, Coolpix units bought from other countries providing that there is an international warranty and proof of purchase abroad (Sales Invoice) with a surcharge of 10% from the bill. [Read more...]
