Thoughts Collected, Recollected at Finale by MM Yu
On view in Finale Art Gallery until May 8, 2007 is MM Yu’s “Thoughts, Collected and Recollected.” The exhibit features more than 20 spiral-bound black notebooks containing the artist’s photographs loosely arranged according to theme, subject, sentiment and impulse of thought.
In love with common folks and the discarded objects of the everyday, the artist captures them without irony and interpretation, allowing their ghastly beauty to emerge and permeate her works with an urgent rawness and honesty so rare in the heavily edited, digitalized world of photography.
Also acting as an installation art, the exhibit offers the viewer a walking tour through the many lives the artist has lived as an observer, traveler, archivist: a dazzling sureit of familiar but oft-ignored images that compose, cohere and inevitably create the contemporary world.
