Nikon Photo Contest International 2006-2007 Winners

The Nikon Photo Contest Internation has been held by Nikon Corporation since 1969 to provide an opportunity for photographers around the world to communicate and to enrich photographic culture for professionals and amateurs alike.

“At the heart of the image” is not only the brand statement of Nikon Imaging Company, but it is also the theme for the 31st contest, in which entries are invited in two categories. The first category is free subject and the second is entitled “Smile, Smile, Smile!” and entries to each category are accepted as prints sent by conventional mail or as JPEG images sent via the Internet. With this theme and these categories, we look forward to receiving expressive images from around the world that are true to people’s emotions.

The number of applicants and entries for Nikon Photo Contest International 2006-2007 increased by 50 percent compared to the last event. The total number of applicants for the 2006-2007 contest was about 47,000.

Applicants offered a myriad of interpretations based on the contest’s theme “At the heart of the image.” These inspirational entries, reaffirmed the significance of using “At the heart of the image” as the theme of the contest. The Grand Prize was selected with this in mind.

The final stage of the selection process produced two finalists for the Grand Prize, an image of two fishermen (crossing waves) and an image of a dolphin (Breaking the silence). To have the final images for the Grand Prize coincidentally capture the spirit of water, an essential element to life on earth, was a revelation.

Photographers who are active in various fields were invited in Tokyo from all over the world for the selection process. The grand prize and all other award-winning photographs were selected among 47,000 photo entries from around the world.

I just wonder why there wasn’t a single entry from Philippine that got in the top 53. Nikon Philippines is preparing a photo contest so we probably should watch out for it.
