Photograph your hometown
The theme of the Contest is hometown: the place where the photographer currently resides or has lived or was born.
Celebrate your hometown! NYIP invites photographers from across the country and around the world to show them what makes your hometowns special. NYIP Focus will feature world-class photography from amateur and emerging professionals in this international photo contest.
Submit up to four photographs (limit one per category) online and show everyone your hometown – the winning photo could be right outside your front door!
Categories:
Main Streeet
What does your hometown look like? Is it a desert setting, an imposing skyline, or a single stoplight? We want you to show us the landscapes and landmarks that capture the heartbeat of your town. Your Main Street submission could depict the Taj Mahal, your general store, or the natural beauty that surrounds you.
Faces in the Crowd
Who are the people that you see in your hometown? Nothing captures a place like the people who live there. Your Faces In The Crowd submission could depict children at play, a holiday parade, or it could be a portrait of your grandmother. We want to see the people who give your hometown its character.
Pets and Wildlife
How are animals a part of your life? You may appreciate the beauty of a herd of grazing zebra from afar or consider a special dog or cat to be part of your family. Send us pictures that capture the way that animals, both wild and domesticated, fit into the environment in which you live.
Local Music
What is the soundtrack of your community? Do you dance to the beat of African drums, tap your toes to the rhythm of a jazz band, or lose yourself to the emotions conveyed by a classical aria? Whether you listen to sambas or saxophones, show us the way that music fuels the spirit of the place you call home.
Prizes
Grand Prize
The grand-prize winner will receive a 5-day trip to our hometown, New York City, where they will take part in a customized photography tour and go behind the scenes with a NYIP professional photographer to take advantage of some of the photo opportunities that only the Big Apple can provide. You’ll meet some of the people that make New York the epicenter of photography.
First-Place Prizes
The winner in each contest category will receive a 10 megapixel Nikon D-40x digital camera with two Nikkor lenses (18-55mm, 55-200mm), a $1000 retail value, and a Lensbaby 3G. The Nikon D-40x is currently one of the most sought-after DSLRs on the market and an excellent choice for amateur and emerging photographers.
Exhibition Prizes
The contest culminates with a photography exhibition in New York City. The photographs of the grand-prize winner, first-prize winners, and runners-up in each category will be displayed in a marvelous Midtown Manhattan space, where they will be viewed by thousands of prominent and influential New Yorkers. Exhibition winners will also receive onOne Software’s Plug-In Suite 3.
To enter, you must register and submit your photographs online. A contestant may only submit one photograph per category. The top photographs in each category will be selected by visitors to the contest site. Those photos with the most votes in each category will then move to the finalist round where our panel of celebrity photography judges will select the winners.
Contest ends September 9, 2007 at 11:59:59 PM Eastern Time.
