Friday, April 27th, 2007

Dagupan, the Bangus Capital of the Philippines, officially opened the Bangus Festival last Saturday, April 21, 2007. The Bangus Festival 2007 is slated from April 21, 2007 to May 1, 2007.

This year’s Bangus Festival celebration is shorter than the previous ones, but four new events will be introduced in the festival, namely, Pigar-Pigar Festival, Pangasinan’s Best cooking competition, Pinoy Rock competition (battle of the bands) and Treat Kita Kid Variety Show.

The festival will culminate on May 1 which will be highlighted by Pangasinan’s celebration of its traditional Pista’y Dayat (sea festival).

On April 27, the two-night Pigar-Pigar Festival will be launched along Galvan Street where Pigar-Pigar stalls will be lined up in the evening.

Pigar-Pigar is a popular delicacy in Dagupan City. It consists of thinly sliced beef or carabeef-deep-fried and cooked medium rare and garnished with onion rings.

A stage will be installed in front of the Malimgas Market where bands will be playing to entertain the festival revelers.

The Bangus Fest Caravan will be held on April 28 covering not just Dagupan but the entire fourth districtof Pangasinan where the elder Lim is running for the congressional seat.

Also to be held on April 28 are the Pangasinan’s Best (Culinary Competition and Food Expo) and Search for the Bangus Fest King and Queen.

The Bangus Rodeo is scheduled on April 29. Competitions in this event include the search for the fastest bangus deboner, bangus classifier and bangus eater; and heaviest bangus, longest bangus and most beautiful bangus.

The Gilon! Gilon Dance Competition will be held on the same day.

Meanwhile, the Kalutan ed Dagupan event, which earnedthe city a Guiness Book of World Records recognition initially on May 3, 2003 with its 1,007.56-meter (3,305.64 ft) grill and reclaimed it anew on April 30, 2005 with 2.1 kilometers, is set on April 30.

The ceremonial lighting of the grills, awarding of lucky visitors and Liket Tan Gayaga Ed Dalan street party and fireworks show will follow.

On May 1, the Pista’y Dayat will be celebrated with the Pandaragupan ed Tondaligan, Fluvial Parade, Pisasalamat (mass), Palaro sa Dagat, Search and Rescue Exhibition 2007, and Treat Kita Kid Variety Show.
