NYIP International Photo Contest

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

NYIP - New York Institue of Photography

presents

NYIP International Photo Contest

Photograph your hometown

The theme of the Contest is hometown: the place where the photographer currently resides or has lived or was born.

Celebrate your hometown! NYIP invites photographers from across the country and around the world to show them what makes your hometowns special. NYIP Focus will feature world-class photography from amateur and emerging professionals in this international photo contest.

Submit up to four photographs (limit one per category) online and show everyone your hometown – the winning photo could be right outside your front door!

Categories:

Main Streeet

What does your hometown look like? Is it a desert setting, an imposing skyline, or a single stoplight? We want you to show us the landscapes and landmarks that capture the heartbeat of your town. Your Main Street submission could depict the Taj Mahal, your general store, or the natural beauty that surrounds you.

Faces in the Crowd

Who are the people that you see in your hometown? Nothing captures a place like the people who live there. Your Faces In The Crowd submission could depict children at play, a holiday parade, or it could be a portrait of your grandmother. We want to see the people who give your hometown its character.

Pets and Wildlife

How are animals a part of your life? You may appreciate the beauty of a herd of grazing zebra from afar or consider a special dog or cat to be part of your family. Send us pictures that capture the way that animals, both wild and domesticated, fit into the environment in which you live.

Local Music

What is the soundtrack of your community? Do you dance to the beat of African drums, tap your toes to the rhythm of a jazz band, or lose yourself to the emotions conveyed by a classical aria? Whether you listen to sambas or saxophones, show us the way that music fuels the spirit of the place you call home.

Prizes

Grand Prize

The grand-prize winner will receive a 5-day trip to our hometown, New York City, where they will take part in a customized photography tour and go behind the scenes with a NYIP professional photographer to take advantage of some of the photo opportunities that only the Big Apple can provide. You’ll meet some of the people that make New York the epicenter of photography.

First-Place Prizes

The winner in each contest category will receive a 10 megapixel Nikon D-40x digital camera with two Nikkor lenses (18-55mm, 55-200mm), a $1000 retail value, and a Lensbaby 3G. The Nikon D-40x is currently one of the most sought-after DSLRs on the market and an excellent choice for amateur and emerging photographers.

Exhibition Prizes

The contest culminates with a photography exhibition in New York City. The photographs of the grand-prize winner, first-prize winners, and runners-up in each category will be displayed in a marvelous Midtown Manhattan space, where they will be viewed by thousands of prominent and influential New Yorkers. Exhibition winners will also receive onOne Software’s Plug-In Suite 3.

To enter, you must register and submit your photographs online. A contestant may only submit one photograph per category. The top photographs in each category will be selected by visitors to the contest site. Those photos with the most votes in each category will then move to the finalist round where our panel of celebrity photography judges will select the winners.

EISA Awards Best Photography Products 2007-2008

 EISA Award Best Product 2007-2008

The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) has selected the Best Products for  2007-2008.

EISA award winners have been published in each of the four categories: Audio & Home Theater, In-Car Electronics, Photo and Video.

In the Photo category the following products received the award:

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Professional Camera

Canon EOS 1D Mark III

For speed, flexibility and build quality there is no DSLR to compete with Canon’s EOS 1D Mark III. With its dust and weather proofing, and 10fps drive combined with a 10MP sensor, this is the ultimate camera for press, sport and wildlife photography. A bright viewfinder, a 3″ LiveView LCD, a powerful battery and a really useful high ISO image quality confirm this model as the world’s best and most advanced digital SLR so far.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Camera

Pentax K10D

The Pentax K10D is an ideal camera for enthusiast and advanced users. Offering an effective resolution of 10MP and a sensor-based shake-reduction system, it delivers crisp, sharp photographs, even at slow shutter speeds. The new integrated 22bit A/D converter ensures the best possible tonal gradation in every picture, while weather-proofing makes the camera suitable for almost all conditions.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Advanced Camera

Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro

The special qualities of Fuji’s Super CCD SR Pro sensor provide the wide dynamic range, low image noise and contrast control that make this camera stand out from the general DSLR market. Fuji has used a rugged body, faster processing, more flexible shooting methods, improved autofocus and advanced flash metering modes. Ultimately, though, it is the S5 Pro’s ability to reproduce a massive range of tones that makes it the winner of this category.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Consumer Camera

Olympus E-510

The Olympus E-510 is a digital SLR with excellent image quality and some clear advantages over the rest of the market. The camera is compact and light, but with its large handgrip it is comfortable to hold. Anti-dust and mechanical image stabilisation systems are both invaluable benefits for the amateur photographer. The Live-View-function isn’t suitable for action photography, but it works very well with less kinetic subjects.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Advanced Compact Camera

Canon PowerShot G7

The Canon PowerShot G7 is a steel-bodied 10 million-pixel camera with a wide range of functions. Up to ISO 400 image noise is remarkably low for a digital compact camera, and with a 6x optical IS lens it is possible to shoot with lower shutter speeds and ISO settings. Despite the lack of a RAW mode, the G7 is a great camera for demanding photographers who prefer a more portable alternative to a SLR.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Compact Camera

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3

The Panasonic DMC-TZ3 is a very compact camera with a sharp 28-280mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens. As the 28mm wide angle and 10x zoom range cover every popular focal length, this is a great camera for travelling and for holidays. The AF system is fast and responsive, while the optical image stabilizer permits using the telephoto settings without a tripod. The nickname ‘Traveller’ is very well chosen.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Design Camera

Samsung i70

The Samsung i70 is a stylish metal-bodied compact camera that is available in four colourful finishes. An innovative sliding front panel exposes a lens surrounded by sparkling diamond-like crystals. Not only does it look good, but it offers a 7.2 MP sensor, a 3″ LCD, face-detection and an MPEG4-Video-mode. Pictures and videos can be edited in-camera, and the i70 can be used as MP3-player with virtual 3D-sound.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Professional Lens

Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4 IS USM L-series

The Canon EF70-200mm f/4 IS USM L zoom goes far beyond the capabilities of other telephoto zoom lenses. It has a weather- and dust-proof construction to complement its excellent optical performance. Thanks to fluorite and SD elements this fast and quiet AF lens delivers outstanding optical performance, while a new 4-stop IS system presents new opportunities for low-light operation.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Consumer Lens

Tamron AF18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical (IF)

The Tamron 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II all round zoom is a high-power lens, developed to cover the entire focal range relevant to amateur photographers. This is a do-it-all lens - many DSLR users will never need to take it off their camera.

The extreme (almost 14x) zoom ratio delivers the ultimate freedom for composition and framing. It has a surprisingly compact and comfortable design and so is an outstanding travel and reportage lens.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Macro Lens

Sigma Macro 70mm f/2.8 EX DG

Suitable for both macro photography and portraiture, Sigma’s 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro displays an unusual level of optical quality, whether used at maximum magnification (1:1) or at normal distances. Despite a highly affordable price it combines outstanding sharpness with low distortion and minimal vignetting. It is an excellent choice for the connoisseur, as well as for the eager amateur seeking good value for money.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Photo Software

DxO Optics Pro 4.5

DxO Optics’ Pro 4.5 is an image quality improvement application dedicated to amateur as well as professional photographers. It handles many file types, including Raw formats, and by using purpose-designed camera/lens modules, it automatically corrects all defects of image quality, such as vignetting, geometric distortion, lens softness and chromatic aberration. DxO Optics Pro 4.5 works as a standalone application or as a Photoshop/Lightroom plug-in.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Image Tank

Epson P-5000

This multimedia device has an 80GB hard disk, CF and SDHC card slots, a removable battery and high-speed data transfer capability. It is very simple to use, with a straightforward user interface displayed on a 4-inch high performance colour LCD screen with exceptional resolution. New Epson Photo Fine Ultra technology uses four colour filters so the LCD can display up to 16.7 million colours - a colour gamut that comes very close to the Adobe RGB space.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008: Memory Card

SanDisk SDHC Extreme III

SanDisk SDHC Extreme III memory cards comply with Class 6, the new highest speed rating in the SD 2.0 specifications. Using Enhanced Super-Parallel Processing technology to increase data flow, they support a minimum read/write speed of 20 MB/s. Cards are designed to survive in harsh environments and thus they are ideal for any photographer. They come packaged with Rescue Pro software, a MicroMate USB reader and an extended warranty.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008:  Photo Printer

Delivering archival quality pictures of up to A2+ format with a 9-ink pigment UltraChrome K3 system, it is designed to produce colour or monochrome work on a diverse range of materials extending beyond the traditional matt and gloss papers. Combining a moderate footprint, economical running costs and high commercial quality, it is unrivalled as a desktop printer for enthusiasts and professional photographers.

EISA Awards Best Product 2007-2008:  Photo Accessory

 Metz Mecablitz 58 AF-1 Digital

The Metz 58 AF-1 Digital hotshoe flash introduces a new feature to the flash category. Users can update its firmware by connecting the flash gun, via USB, to a computer. This dedicated GN58m @ ISO 100 unit has a tilting zoom head that covers 18mm lenses (with diffuser), a secondary reflector and a full range of functions, including high performance power management.
