Nikon Gives D2X Picture Controls Feature to D3 and D300

Nikon D3 and D300

Nikon releases an update that gives the Nikon D3 and Nikon D300 Picture Controls feature that was only available with the D2X/D2Xs.

This firmware update gives a set of three optional Picture Controls, one for each of the three D2X/D2XS Color mode settings.

When these optional Picture Controls are registered with the D3/D300, color reproduction simulating that of images captured with the D2X and D2XS is possible, and custom Picture Controls can also be created based on these optional Picture Controls. For black-and-white images, use the standard Monochrome Nikon Picture Control.

D2XMODE1
This optional Picture Control simulates color reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Color mode setting of I.

Skin tones and gradations are reproduced naturally with rich reproduction of tones.

D2XMODE2
This optional Picture Control simulates color reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Color mode setting of II.

This optional Picture Control is suited to images that will be extensively processed or retouched.

D2XMODE3
This optional Picture Control simulates color reproduction at a D2X/D2XS Color mode setting of III.

Choose for nature or landscape shots. Greens and blues are vividly reproduced.

You can grab the Nikon D2X Picture Controls for the D3 and D300 from the links below:

Compact Digital Photography Guidelines for Print Publications by GWG

 GWG

The international Ghent PDF Workgroup (GWG), which in five years has become one of the world’s most respected graphic arts best practice organizations, announces the availability of the GWG Photography White Paper.

The GWG Photography White Paper gives publishers and photographers a compact set of digital photography guidelines for print production.  Correct implementation of ICC color management and standards is essential to ensure that maximum quality is maintained from the original capture through to the final printed result. The GWG recommends using these guidelines for digital photography projects for print production.

Two versions are available: One for ‘news photography’ and one for ‘shootings’.

These guidelines were initially created by Medibel+, a Belgian graphic arts association: http://www.medibelplus.be

Subsequently these guidelines were edited and approved by the GWG.

Various other organizations offer more in-depth information on this subject at the GWG Digital Photography Whitepaper site.

Join Moo’s Holiday Card Competition

Moo

invites you to…

Join the Moo Holiday Card Competition

How do I join the contest?

Make your designs in any way you like (they can be photographic or illustration based) and upload them to Flickr. Join the MOO Competition group at www.flickr.com/groups/mooxmas07 and add up to ten designs to the group pool. Once your design is in the pool, that’s it – you’ve entered – and from November 1st 2007 you, your friends – and the rest of the world, will be able to buy your design on their holiday cards in the Holiday Card Store, on the MOO website.

What are the prizes?

There are four prizes, each of $2000 US. These will be awarded to the entry the judges consider to be the best in each category.

What are the categories?

Best Selling
For the design that is used on the most Greetings Cards sold through the MOO shop.

Best Photo
For the photographic entry the judges think is the best – both in terms of craft, and in the way it captures the holiday spirit. It can be a digital or a scanned film photo, but you shouldn’t have heavily manipulated it.

Best non-photo
For anything else – from drawings to quilts to design to computer generated art. Again, this will be the image the judges think is the best – both craft, and in the way it captures the holiday spirit

Funniest
For the image – however it’s made – that the judges think is the most hilarious take on the holiday.

You keep the copyright in your design/photos. When you add it to the group pool, you’re agreeing that MOO can show it on the MOO website, and let people print it when they buy greetings cards. Check the competition rules for more details. MOO will only use your images for the Holiday Card Store, and nothing else. You can still use your image in any other way you want to.

Entries must be submitted to the flickr group pool at www.flickr.com/groups/mooxmas07 no later than 23:59h (11:59pm) GMT on November 31st, 2007. Entries submitted after 00:00h GMT on December 1st, 2007 will not be eligible for the prizes.

For more info, check out the Moo Holiday Card Competition website and make sure to read the full Terms and Conditions and FAQs.
