The German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ)

in partnership with

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) and
The Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia (Philippine Water Partnership)

present

Water is Life Photo Contest

So what is the Water is Life Photo Contest all about?

This photo contest aims to raise awareness among the citizenry by dramatically visualizing the various water and sanitation issues facing the country today and move people into action to address these issues.

The theme for this photo contest is “Water is Life.” This theme is based on the fundamental truth that water is a core element of life. Every organism, individual, and ecosystem depends on water for survival. Indeed, water impacts all aspects of life and water systems play a pivotal role in the sustainability of life and its related activities.

All entries of this contest must represent or typify the conditions of our water resources
both in its beauty and the dangers it is facing. Photographs may also capture local
issues on our water resources such as the following:

  • Water for Agriculture – examples include conflict due to illegal water diversion, water shortage due to over extraction of groundwater for irrigation, water pollution caused by use of pesticide and herbicide, flashfloods caused by over exploitation of forest resources
  • Water for People – examples include poor drinking water quality due pollution from various sources, poor water quality and water scarcity due to saltwater intrusion caused by over extraction of groundwater sources, poor water management due to abuse and lack of conservation efforts
  • Water for Sanitation – examples include improper wastewater and/or sewage disposal which drains sewerage to groundwater, rivers, lakes and seas therefore exposing people to various health hazards

The winning photographs of this contest will be displayed through a photo exhibit on June 5, 2008 in time with the World Environment Day in selected malls in Metro Manila.
