YKL Photo Contest PhotoWorld Asia 2008

Contest Mechanics:

1. This photo contest is open to all amateur, hobbyists, professional film/digital photographers.
2. The subject/theme – Everything about YKL Photo Booth/Activities such as:

• Mime Artists
• Ramp Modeling
• Cosplay
• Other Events within YKL Booth

3. Size of Entries – 8 x 10″ (8R) - colored or black & white prints

4. Photo Printing should be done in the following Fujifilm Digital Imaging (FDI) stores only: - Php. 28.00 per 8R

• FDI Digital Exchange - Glorietta (3rd Level Glorietta 3, Ayala Center)
• FDI Dela Rosa 1 (Ground Floor Dela Rosa 1 Carpark Bldg. Dela Rosa St., Makati City)
• FDI Dela Rosa 2 (Upper Ground Floor Dela Rosa 2 Carpark Bldg. Dela Rosa St., Makati City)
• FDI Pasay Road (Jackson Bldg. # 926 Arnaiz At., Makati City)

5. Entry Form/s can only be obtained through FDI Stores stated above. Entries should be properly labeled - attached with an entry form (one entry form per photo).
6. Submission of the entries will be at YKL Booth during the PhotoWorld Asia 2008.
7. Deadline of Submission of Entries - Feb. 04, 2008 (Mon.) till 12:00 PM
8. Judging of entries will be on Feb. 04, 2008 - Monday afternoon.
9. For verification – Original Media (negatives, slides, digital file) of the winning entries must be presented to the contest committee before the awarding of prizes.
10. Awarding of prizes will be on Feb. 05, 2008 (Tues) at 5:00 PM – YKL Booth
11. All the decisions of judges are deemed final.

1st Prize : One (1) FinePix A900 Digital Camera (9 MP Effective)
2nd Prize : One (1) FinePix A700 Digital Camera (7.3 MP Effective)

Cosplay Competition

In line with the Photo Contest, there will be a COSPLAY competition which will be manage by Cosplay.ph, please visit their site for more info. This will be held on Sat and Sun in the afternoon.

Hands-on Black and White Developing Lecture

Jay Javier will give lecture/demo in our booth on how to develop black and white films using a Rodinal Type of chemicals. The lecture will also tackle tips on black and white photography. This is schedule on Feb. 2 and 3 from 12:00 noon till 2 pm.

Ramp Modelling with FujiFilm Finepix Digital Cameras

There will also be a model photo shoot in the Fuji-YKL booth. You could try out the  Fujifilm Finepix point and shoot digital cameras in shooting the models.

All About Lomo

Learn the latest craze in the industry, the LOMOGRAPHY. A lomo wall, lomo lectures and meet the lomographers of LOMO MANILA.

Tentatively scheduled: Feb. 4 and 5 6:00 pm onwards.

Canon laucnhes the EOS 450D as its newest addition to their entry level DSLRs. The 450D now has 12MP resolution, 3.5fps shooting capability and 3.0″ LCD with Live View. It now uses SD/SDHC instead of the usual CF from the 350D/400D. You won’t be able to use your BG-E3 battery grips from your 350D/400D as the 450D uses the BG-E5 battery grip.

 2 New Canon L-Series Telephotos

The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM and EF200mm f/2L IS USM are professional L-Series lenses that incorporate the latest generation of Canon’s high-performance Optical Image Stabilizer system (OIS), giving them a stabilization effect equivalent to a shutter speed four settings faster. In addition, they feature optical systems utilizing fluorite and UD lens elements to provide excellent chromatic aberration correction for high-resolution, high-contrast shooting performance. Both lenses use only lead-free glass, and also incorporate lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy lens barrels with enhanced resistance to moisture and dust.

The Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM is an exceptionally sharp lens that is significantly lighter (2520g/5.5 lbs. vs. 3000g/6.6 lbs.) than its predecessor, the renowned EF200mm f/1.8L USM lens, while adding OIS and a weather-resistant design. Ideal for all kinds of low-light photography including portraiture as well as indoor sports, the EF200mm f/2L IS USM has a close-focus setting of 1.9 m/6.2 feet and a circular aperture system that enhances its background blur rendition at wide apertures.

1. Types of commonly used studio lights
2. Light modifiers
3. Trigerring lights
4. Measuring light
5. Light positions
6. Types of portrait lighting
7. Dealing with models

1st day of seminar will be on discussion of the topics, there will be no shooting to be done. Though there will be a hands-on practice in measuring lights using a flash meter.

2nd day, scheduled shoots for the group (9am, 1pm and 4pm), models will be provided. Participants should only come on their time slot, to avoid over crowding. During the shoot, each participant will be asked to conceptualize a lighting set-up to be done with their model, other participants on the same group will be assisting. After the participant finishes the shoot, other participant on the group will do the same, so the previous participant will now be acting as the assistant. (round robin system)

For the Critique session which will allow fellow students and me to critique ones work, as they say getting better needs one to realize its faults as to make sure to correct it the next possible time.

Kindly bring 1 to 2 of your favorite photo from the photo session printed on 5R, ink jet prints on photo paper are acceptable. All photos will be posted together on the wall for viewing. Ken will also discuss some questions regarding post processing during these critique sessions.This guarantees a hands-on set-up, thus learning from actually doing it rather than just listening. This will also make sure that the participant will the only one shooting at the time of his/her set-up, so he/she gets all the needed angles to complete the shoot, no more wrestling for a spot just to get the photo.
