 2 New Canon L-Series Telephotos

The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM and EF200mm f/2L IS USM are professional L-Series lenses that incorporate the latest generation of Canon’s high-performance Optical Image Stabilizer system (OIS), giving them a stabilization effect equivalent to a shutter speed four settings faster. In addition, they feature optical systems utilizing fluorite and UD lens elements to provide excellent chromatic aberration correction for high-resolution, high-contrast shooting performance. Both lenses use only lead-free glass, and also incorporate lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy lens barrels with enhanced resistance to moisture and dust.

Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS

The Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM is an exceptionally sharp lens that is significantly lighter (2520g/5.5 lbs. vs. 3000g/6.6 lbs.) than its predecessor, the renowned EF200mm f/1.8L USM lens, while adding OIS and a weather-resistant design. Ideal for all kinds of low-light photography including portraiture as well as indoor sports, the EF200mm f/2L IS USM has a close-focus setting of 1.9 m/6.2 feet and a circular aperture system that enhances its background blur rendition at wide apertures.

Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS

The Canon EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM is not only the longest focal length lens available with OIS, it is also virtually the same physical size as the EF600mm f/4L IS USM (461mm vs. 456mm), while weighing nearly 2 lbs. less (4500g/9.9 lbs. vs. 5360g/11.8 lbs.). These outstanding features were made possible by the use of a lightweight magnesium alloy lens barrel construction and a state-of-the-art super-telephoto optical system featuring 2 fluorite elements as well as Super UD and UD glass elements. The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM is well-suited for a wide variety of long-range photo applications such as wildlife and nature photography as well as sports and documentary photojournalism.

The new Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM is scheduled to be available in April at an estimated retail price of $5,999.00 and the new Canon EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM is scheduled to be available in May for an estimated retail price of $11,999.00.

Pentax Photo Gallery

PENTAX has opened the doors of www.pentaxphotogallery.com to give PENTAX shooters around the world the opportunity to be represented in the gallery and share their most defining moments of photography.   This virtual Photo Gallery is the first of its kind to offer space for passionate PENTAX photographers to exhibit their work, share and gain resources within an artistic community, create an online portfolio, and more.

“For decades, PENTAX collected the best images captured with our cameras and published the work annually in an historical, coffee table-type, book collection,” said Ned Bunnell, Vice President Marketing, PENTAX Imaging Company.  “Now we are taking things in a new direction with the PENTAX Photo Gallery that offers 24/7/365 virtual access to the best photography captured by PENTAX photographers.”

Unlike most photo sharing websites, www.pentaxphotogallery.com is an original website that was designed exclusively for Pentaxians by PENTAX Imaging Company.  PENTAX photographers may submit work for display and become part of an online photography community that reflects a collaborative archive of talent.  Biographies of each photographer help reveal the personalities behind each lens.

With limitless virtual capacity, the PENTAX gallery already features more than 2,500 images submitted by more than 300 artists.  Photographers range from 16 to 80 years of age and hail from more than 40 countries throughout Europe; Asia; the Middle East; North, South and Central Americas; Africa; and the Pacific Rim.  The gallery offers site navigation in six languages:  English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, and Italian.

Featuring a search engine that locates images according to camera bodies and individual lenses (as well as photographer and subject category), the gallery educates budding photographers about the creative capabilities offered by the vast array of PENTAX digital SLR lenses.

PENTAX photographers interested in more information regarding submitting work to the gallery may email: photogallery@pentax.com.  An informative flash demonstration of this process is also available at: http://extranet.texturemedia.com/pentax/photogallery/demo2/demo.html

Magalingdinkami - Disciples of Jo Avila Yahoogroup Launched!

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Jo Avila’s former students and VAs got together during Jo Avila’s Annual VA & Student party held last Saturday, July 21, 2007 at his studio and everyone had a great time!

The group had discussions in putting up an online venue where all of Jo Avila’s former students and VA’s can meet each other and share some ideas. With Jo Avila’s approval, Raymond Veran created a Yahoo! Group aptly name Magalingdinkami with a tagline Disciples of Jo Avila; Jo uses pinakamagalingako as his nick/username in forums and emails thus the name Magalingdinkami.

This groups exists as a venue for us friends, students and va’s alike, to share in our common passion for Photography. Here, we freely exchange ideas, techniques, experiences, “kwento”, good times, and of course, good photos.

Feel free to shout out to anyone in the group and to express anything on your mind (Photography related of course). We welcome everything from equipment reviews to info and tidbits on the goings-on of the photography world.

Let’s all get together and talk about photography and why we all shouldn’t take photos of a cow eating grass :D

Cheers!

Jo Avila

Please come join us if you are a former photography student or VA of  Jo Avila.
